CHARMING DAY
RUINED CASTLE VALEČOV, DRÁBSKÉ SVĚTNIČKY ROCK FORTRESS, LOCAL ATMOSPHERIC RESTAURANT SKÁLA (“THE ROCK”), MNICHOVO HRADIŠTĚ CHATEAU, KOST CASTLE
Escape the crowded Prague city centre on this exclusive private tour and see the amazing highlights of the Bohemian Paradise (Český Ráj) – a UNESCO Geopark.
You will be picked up in your hotel and driven to the Bohemian Paradise, situated about 100 km northeast from Prague. The journey takes approx. 1 - 1.5 hours.
Our tour will start in the ruins of Drábské Světničky, a group of seven robust sandstone blocks located 4 km to the northeast of Mnichovo Hradiště, in the massif of Mužský Hill in the Příhrazské Rocks. From the car park, it is a mere 500 m walk/climb through a forest to the fortress gate. From the top of Drábské Světničky, you can admire a spectacular view of the Jizera valley. We will continue all the way to the viewpoint known as the Beautiful Lookout (an approx. 2 km walk). Along the way, we will pass Studený průchod (the Cold Passage). The name is connected with the surprisingly cold air the gap in the rock retains even in the summer. The ravine is home to interesting communities of mosses and lichens typical of colder mountain environments. You can admire magnificent views of the surrounding countryside from the scenic terraces: you can see Bezděz – the king of all Czech castles, Mount Ještěd – a symbol of the Liberec region, which, at the altitude of 1012 m, also dominates North Bohemia; as well as Kozákov Hill – the guardian mountain of the Bohemian Paradise.
From the Beautiful Lookout you will be driven to the ruined castle Valečov. A short and mild ascent will lead you to the castle that was built on the site of a Slavic hillfort from the 14th century. Once you finish exploring the ruins, we will continue to lunch.
Restaurant Skála (The Rock) is a unique restaurant carved into a rock. You can enjoy typical Czech cuisine and local beer tasting in this unconventional place. You will be impressed by the uniqueness of this restaurant, including the atmosphere, the historical interiors.
On the way to the Kost Castle we will stop by the Mnichovo Hradiště chateau. During this short stop you will see the chateau exteriors and St. Ann ́s Chapel – the place where Albrecht von Wallenstein was laid to rest.
The Kost castle lies in an attractive landscape of forests and sandstone rocks, which is aptly called the Bohemian Paradise because of its charm. Kost is one of the few remaining medieval castles in the Czech Republic and is considered the second most important. You can choose one of the castle tours or just enjoy the splendid views and landscape around the castle.
