BOHEMIAN EXPERIENCE

SYCHROV CHATEAU, RUINS OF ROTŠTEJN CASTLE, DLASK ́S FARM, RESTAURANT ÁBELŮV MLÝN (“ABEL ́S MILL”), HRUBÝ ROHOZEC CHATEAU

Discover a little piece of heaven in the Bohemian Paradise region – a UNESCO Geopark. A unique combination of bizzare rock formations, dense pine forests, majestic castles and chateaux, countless lofty viewing points, as well as hiking and cycling trails through the heart of the idyllic sandstone rocks.

You will be picked up in your hotel and driven to the Bohemian Paradise, situated about 100 km northeast from Prague. The journey takes approx. 1-1.5 hours. We will visit the Gothic Revival-style Sychrov chateau, where you can see many rare collections, including French portrait paintings and etched and painted Bohemian glass from the 18th and 19th centuries. You can also admire the English park surrounding the chateau.

From there we will drive to the ruined castle Rotštejn and on the way you will have the opportunity to see Mount Ještěd – a symbol of the Liberec region, which, at the altitude of 1012 m, also dominates North Bohemia; Frýdštejn castle ruins – a typical rock castle lying on the upper end of a long sandstone rock ridge, near the Jizera river valley, Vranov castle, Suché (Dry) Rocks – formerly known as Kantorovy Varhany are now nicknamed the Czech Dolomites; Kozákov Hill – the guardian mountain of the Bohemian Paradise.

Then we will drive under the Rotštejn castle, where we will visit the medieval ruins of a small rock castle founded before 1300, climb the sandstone stairs and stroll along a romantic path sheltered by the forest to the Klokočí Rocks – The platform above the village of Klokočí ends by a steep rock front. The rock wall is about 1600 metres long, divided in places by isolated rock towers and faults (called the Klokočské Průchody). The rock wall offers spectacular views of the northern and south-eastern parts of the Bohemian Paradise (Český Ráj); the length of the walk can be adjusted to suit your preferences (1.5 - 4 km).

Lunch time will be spent in the local atmospheric restaurant Ábelův mlýn – “Abel ́s Mill” in Dolánky, where you will have the opportunity to taste typical Czech cuisine. DOLÁNKY – a part of Turnov where you can enjoy the landscape around River Jizera, with a magnificent view of the Hrubý Rohozec chateau. You will visit Dlask ́s Farm, a former farmstead and a village magistrate’s office built in 1716 – a typical example of a building from the Jizera region. The building houses permanent exhibitions of the Museum of the Bohemian Paradise dedicated to rural dwellings and agricultural tools. Our day will finish at the Hrubý Rohozec chateau, where you can appreciate the luxurious lifestyle of aristocrats.
